Vancouver Whitecaps FC vs New York Red Bulls
Vancouver Whitecaps FC and the New York Red Bulls will meet at Empire Field on Saturday afternoon, 28th May 2011. Whitecaps FC return to league play for the first time in two weeks, aiming to win for the first time in MLS since First Kick. The Red Bulls are coming off back-to-back draws, last at midweek against defending MLS Cup champion Colorado.
VANCOUVER WHITECAPS FC
Eric Hassli scored yet another goal for the Caps on Wednesday night (too bad it doesn’t count). He’s finally finding his form in MLS and coming in off the right on to his left foot seems to be the key. With such size he should be able to make himself room to shoot but the Whitecaps in general have been reluctant to have a go from distance. Let’s hope Hassli’s goal on Wednesday is a reminder that if you don’t shoot you don’t score.
Vancouver Whitecaps FC return to MLS play after a weekend off, their last league match a 1-0 loss to the New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium on May 14. Whitecaps FC have 8 points from 11 matches, sitting in ninth place in the Western Conference.
NEW YORK RED BULLS
Thierry Henry returned to the Red Bull lineup against the Colorado Rapids and, of course, he scored. The Frenchman has been phenomenal in recent months, tallying six goals in the last six matches. Also, by drawing with Colorado, New York confirmed a trait that emerged in the previous match against the Houston Dynamo in its ability to rebound after conceding. Twice in the past week the Red Bulls have battled back from deficits in order to gain points from matches that could have ended in defeat.
The New York Red Bulls played to a second consecutive draw, another 2-2 result, with the Colorado Rapids on Wednesday evening at Red Bull Arena. The Red Bulls have 17 points from 11 games, now sitting in second place in the Eastern Conference.
